New Holland Church Furniture was selected by St. Basil the Great Roman Catholic Church in March 2004 to provide the pews and furniture for their new church. The church is located in Kimberton, Pennsylvania.

Upon completing the design work, New Holland received an e-mail from the Pastor, Rev. Robert A. McLaughlin stating that “St. Basil the Great had two William Penn White Oak trees on our property that are 200 years old.

One of the trees had been struck by lightning numerous times and needed to come down. This tree has great emotional meaning to our community and we would like the surviving lumber to be incorporated into the furniture for our new church. Would it be possible to make the altar table top from this lumber?”

New Holland sent a representative to the church to check the lumber and test the moisture content. Upon inspection it was determined that New Holland would be able to use the lumber for the altar table top. New Holland carefully selected the lumber, picking only the boards suitable for manufacturing a fine piece of furniture.

Upon completing the altar top for St. Basil the Great, New Holland realized it had enough lumber left to manufacture a few additional pieces of furniture.

Rev. McLaughlin was delighted to hear that the oils ambry and Jerusalem cross which now hangs in the vestibule of the church could also be manufactured from their William Penn White Oak lumber.

Rev. McLaughlin was a pleasure to work with and New Holland was pleased to incorporate this grand William Penn White Oak into their furniture and preserve the history for all to enjoy.
